Autumn in good old Blighty!

Autumn is one of my favourite seasons (if not my favourite season) of the year. When I first immigrated to the UK, I remember being fascinated by it. For one, we only had two seasons back home - the rainy season and the dry season (the highlight of which was Harmattan). I have since grown to love and be thankful for the infusion of colour into the otherwise dreary, shorter days in good old Blighty. As the days get shorter and the reality of this especially hits home when the clocks 'fall back' at the end of October, it's easy to become negative and gloomy like many around me, and as I must admit, I have done in the past.

These days, rather than focus on the gloomy, shorter days ahead, I daily appreciate the array of unfolding colours around me. I am fortunate enough to live in a leafy suburb of London, with lots of woody "gems of solace".  My favourite way to 'detox' after a stressful day or week is to go for an autumnal power walk, interspersed with 'photo-op' stops to capture the beauty of nature. It quite literally is therapeutic! Back home, with endorphins rushing through my body and as I sit down to look through my phone Gallery, my heart wells up with thanks to the Almighty for brightening our bland world with such amazing colours. So, the next time you're super stressed during the Autumn months from work, kids, or life in general, I invite you to try doing what I do...

Stop! Take a moment. Look around you. What do you see?
Be thankful for the little things...

I leave you with my Autumn poem. Enjoy it!

Autumnal Bliss
Falling leaves twirling in the wind
Gentle breeze caressing my face
Bushy-tailed grey squirrels scurrying after conkers to hide
Fallen leaves crunching under my wellies
Adidas trainers squelching red berries as I power walk
Afrobeat music blaring through my earphones
Brown and yellow, red and purple, and blue, would you believe it!
I can only be thankful for the joy of autumnal bliss

A beautiful autumnal morning in London
Brown, yellow and green

Twigs crackle, stream flows
